Dame Kiri Te Kanawa

Critics called her voice "mellow yet vibrant, warm, ample and unforced". Kiri Te Kanawa was a lyric soprano from New Zealand. She was very successful during her operatic career. She was also rather fond of roles like those of Donna Elvira or Contessa Almaviva, in which she had to play a noblewoman. Kiri Te Kanawa does not sing in operas anymore but she does perform in recitals and gives masterclasses.

Believe it or not, Kiri Te Kanawa was a pop star. She sang in many bars and clubs in New Zealand and was regularly shown in the newspaper.  She received the Mobil Song Quest for singing Vissi d'arte from Puccini's Tosca.

Kiri's repertoire included Mozart, Bizet, Puccini, Verdi and many others. She was also at Frederica von Stade's benefit recital, (2011), at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco.
